Dermaplaning

• Acne - Clients suffering with active or inflammatory acne should not have the treatment performed until their condition has cleared up or dramatically improved
• Skin Thinners - Clients who have been given topical or oral medication where one of the side effects is skin thinning (often found in acne medications) should avoid this treatment for at least 6 months after stopping use of the medication and then only after the advice of their physician. 
• Chemotherapy - Clients who have had chemotherapy in the last 6 months should wait until their treatment has been completed for at least 6 months and they have advice from their physician that this procedure is safe. Their skin may be extra fragile and thin. 

There is no downtime with dermaplaning. You may continue with your normal activities with these small considerations: 

• Please do not repeatedly touch your face or let others touch it immediately after the treatment. Germs are easily spread in this manner and your skin needs to be protected. Thoroughly wash hands before touching your face. 
• Makeup can be applied after treatment but it is better to wait until the next day if possible. An SPF 30 will be applied to your face at the end of the treatment and it is recommended to wear an SPF 30 and above daily. The top layers of dead skin cells have been removed thus making your skin more sensitive to the sun.
•  Avoid heat treatments (sauna, steam room, etc.) for the next 24 hours after your procedure. Your skin may be more prone to irritation directly after dermaplaning which can be exacerbated by sweating. 
• A daily skin care routine for your skin type will allow your amazing instant results to last longer. Once the layers of dead skin cells and vellous hair are removed, the skin can more readily absorb such products, making them much more effective. 
• Wait a minimum of three weeks before receiving another dermaplaning treatment. 
• With a good skincare routine dermaplaning is recommended every 4-6 weeks. 
• Clients with oily skin may notice that the skin feels more oily following the procedure due to the removal of the vellous hair that normally absorbs the oil. A proper skincare routine will help to even the skin out as it settles. 
• As with facials, you may experience a purge effect where the skin settles itself back out resulting in blemishes. This is completely normal and not cause for alarm.
